Laura Meeds and I have been observing chimney swifts On the old Fort McClellan property here in Anniston for the Last five years. This year has been revealing in the Chimney Swifts have now chosen new sights to use as Roosts. It is a challenge to drive around the old fort And find where they have gone. We love a good challenge.

Denise and I counted swifts on 9-8,9,10-2012 from one location where we could see two chimneys.

Both chimneys are located on First Avenue in Lenoir City TN.

The smaller chimney ( ~ 18 In. square ) protrudes from the roof of the Canvas Church fronting on B street. The second and larger chimney ( ~ 36 in. square and 30 ft. high ) rises from the ground on the side of the War Memorial Building which also fronts on B street .

This Cheryl Koza, a volunteer with the Geauga Park District in Geauga County, Ohio. Dan Best one of out naturalists and I did a program on Chimney Swifts tonight 9/12/2012 between 7:30pm and 8:15 pm at Burton High School in Burton Twp., Ohio.

We averaged a count of 686 chimney swifts. The temperature was 65degrees F. and the skies were
partly cloudy. The air was relatively still. There was noise from the car show and motorcycles in the near vacinity. The loud noises did seem to affect the birds. They did stop moving into the chimney in response to the loud noises.
