Naples, TX

8 Sep-33 swifts down chimney
9 Sep-40 swifts down chimney
average spot census indicated 12 resident swifts.

Located in Morris cnty. NE TX
TX hwy 67 is main street in town: our farm is located south of TX HWY 77 and North of FM 161, west of TX HWY 338 and East of FM 2888. Season has been quiet with no disasters.
We open the house chimney to the swifts, so they are nesting in our living room (so to speak). Enjoy these birds more than I can say and consider it a great blessing.

I have been unable to get anyone at Lone Star Steel to speak to me about keeping the large masonry chimneys for roosts and I am greeted with very tight security and odd looks when I try to get anyone in the office to respond sigh. and so it goes, as I am sure you know better than I.

On September 9, 2012, I walked down to Huffman Memorial, United Methodist Church, at 28th and Renick Street, Saint Joseph, Missouri at 7:40 PM. There were 20 or 30 CHSW randomly flying in the vicinity of the large, tall chimney of the church. Their numbers gradually increased until there were a couple of hundred. The first bird entered the chimney at 7:50 PM. The numbers of birds continued to increase as they flew counter-clock wise around the chimney. The last bird went into the chimney at 8:10 PM. The total count I had was 1,050 birds.

Catonsville, MD

Count: Approximately 265

Time: 7:01 - 7:40 PM

Date: Sept 8, 2012

Location: Catonsville Fire Station, 756 Frederick Rd, Catonsville, Md. 21228

Description: Attached is a picture of the building. The chimney you see in the picture is not the one used by the swifts. there is a second tower on the right side of the roof in front of the chimney. So it is much lower. The tower itself is a hose tower used for storing the hoses. I gather that the fire fighters don't use it much these days.

Weather: raining
